About Advancement

"Advancement" refers to the activities, projects and merrit awards that advances a scout in rank. The week-long summer camp at Camp Moses, for example, is a great event for advancement since there are so many instructional activites. For the most part, the scouts work on advancement themselves with help from parent voluneers.

Our Advancement committee member has Jim Whitehouse for several years. Jim is moving on to other obligations and the Comittee would like to thank Jim for his time and effort as the Advancement Chair. Marie Holmes has volunteered to take over the job, and we thank her for taking on the added responsibility.

The Advancement chair tracks the scouts advancement activities and send emails to parents from time to time with a report of their scout's status. See our Contacts page to get in touch with Marie via email.

Advancement Notes

Advancement is going to be a little different this year. Instead of a large presentation once or twice a year, awards, merit badges, and advancements will occur during one scheduled meeting each month. At the end of the year, we will party!

A couple of notes please.... Please allow about four weeks for paperwork to be processed after earning a badge or advancement.

We can always use volunteers to hand deliver paperwork and pick up the badges; up to this point one person has been doing most of the traveling (thanks Jean). This causes the most delays in presentations.

No Board of Review will be provided to anyone who is not in a clean uniform, or does not have his book with him. Books can only be signed off by leaders of Troop 90. For the new members: I cannot sign off any Merit Badge that I am not registered to sign-off, and none of the books.

I am looking for a couple of new members for the Board of Reviews; training is easy and done at home but you must be a registered adult. You will never be asked to participate in your own son' review.

Volunteer service hours MUST be approved in advance by either Marie or Jeff.

Merit Badge Counselors and Board of Review members should take the time to take the Youth Protection Training which is on-line, and also review the Merit Badge Counselors orientation - also on-line. (I think that every adult/parent should take the Youth Protection Training so that you know what the rules are. It is worth it!) Plan on one hour. To receive a certificate, you need your scout membership number. Please give the YPT certificate to Jean or myself - Thanks

YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING - Need to register (it's free) and have your BSA # at scoutnet.scouting.org/elearning.
