About Community Service

Scouts learn to give to their community via community service events. Some community service events are coordinated by the troop committee, and others are the responsibility of individual scouts. Our Community Service committee member is Amy Correira. Amy has contacted several local organizations who could use help. We will post that information here as soon as we can.

Community Service Notes

This year we are doing things slightly differently. All the scouts need community service hours to advance to the next rank, and we feel it is their responsibility to be aware of what they need, and to target the hours when available.

I have been in contact with quite a few different local organizations, in the hope that the boys can find something they relate to. It is my sincere hope that there are enough options available that all the scouts can take advantage of at least 2 of the service projects. Most of these are only a couple hours long, and if the advancement is pending for service hours, the scouts will have to do a couple different ones to make up the time. Also, I feel it is important that the scouts know what the benefits are for each particular organization, so, with each permission slip will be several questions, which if answered, will earn time as well. They will be simple, basic questions to ensure the kids know who they are helping and why.

Most of these volunteer organizations want small groups of people at each outing, to keep control and help maintain order. Therefore, we will be having sign up in order of my receipt of the permission slip, and the scouts who need hours should choose with this in mind. We will need adult chaperones to go with the kids, two per trip should be fine, and only a couple of the choices count the adult as one of the available spots. Thanks also to any parent who would like to drive a carpool vehicle to any of these, as we can help the environment while we're in a helping mood. I will post the whole list of options, although I am only going to put the slips on for two or three upcoming times each month. Thanks for all your help, and let's have a great time this year!
